Your stairlift/chairlift might have become noisy or inherited a squeak you may be inclined to try and add a little lubrication oil etc. to your stairlift. Grabbing a can of DWD machine oil and spraying randomly could cause you all sorts of problems
Lubrication/Oiling should be undertaken by a trained qualified stairlift engineer. The squeak will more than likely originate from the carriage mechanism and the removal of covers and safety edges will be required to access the offending part
Only qualified engineers with training should remove covers and any other type of safety edge paddle. Its essential re-assembly of the stair lift is carried out by a trained engineer. They will also follow the stair lift companies recommendations and specifications of which types of oils lubricant to use and where it should be applied
Certain types of machine oils can react with certain plastics and rubbers! The reaction is not instantaneous and the damage will occur over a period of time! Plastic parts, Cogs, covers etc. will become brittle and break shatter. Certain rubbers used on chairlift rollers will degrade perish or become brittle
We recommend you read the instructions on the tin and follow all guidelines stated by the lubricant manufacturer and follow all storage and desposal requirments. If in doubt you should seek qualified assistance from the manufacturer
We highly recommend you get an engineer to attend and inspect your stairlift. The noise or squeak may be annoying and one may want to wait until the stair lift is due for its annual service inspection etc. The offending noise could be an indication that something needs attention and sooner the better before serious damage is caused to your stairlift. Leaving you with a hefty repair bill
Repair bills can be costly and routine stairlift service maintenance is recommended your stairlift should be serviced inspected at least once a year by a qualified engineer
